Japanese architect Shigeru Ban has envisioned Infinite Maldives, a distinctive "resort residence" located within the Malé Atoll. The design embraces the Maldivian vernacular, featuring gardens and rows of houses on the water crafted from timber and locally sourced materials.

The expansive five-hectare resort will comprise 44 villas situated on the beach and over the water, seamlessly connected by a lengthy wooden boardwalk. These houses will encircle four gardens, designed by landscape architect Michael Desvigne, all constructed using timber and materials indigenous to the region.

Ban emphasized the project's commitment to sustainability, asserting that it is a "true act of sustainability." Unlike developments merely capitalizing on the "sustainability" label for commercial purposes, Ban aims to create a haven where people can relax mentally and physically, in harmony with the environment.

"In contrast to many developments selling 'sustainability' just as a label in the commercial sense, our aim is to create a place where people can relax mentally and physically, in harmony with the environment, taking in all its value," the architect expressed, emphasizing the project's authenticity in promoting sustainability.

Infinite Maldives is commissioned by Sri Lankan developer Crystal Property Group and is set to include a spa, fitness center, and wellness facilities. The resort will also offer private spaces for residents, each house featuring its own infinity pool and outdoor lounging areas.

Crystal Property Group CEO Reza Magdon Ismail expressed pride in delivering the first-of-its-kind resort residence in the Maldives, considering it a significant milestone for the country. He anticipates Infinite Maldives standing as a testament to the unique wonders the island has to offer.
